Back to School Friday FUN!

Hi all! Kristina here. I'm back again today with another card and video. :)

Since today is the last day of Back to School month here at Simon, I thought it would be fun to challenge myself to use items from the Junior Stamper Kit. The kit is packed full of construction paper, markers, crayons, glue, scissors, and more. Often we look over these child-like supplies and go straight to the usual cardmaking items (stamps, patterned paper, etc), but there's something about  playing with construction paper that is just so fun!

So I broke out the kit and did a bit of coloring and cutting things out. I only used a few tools that weren't in the kit: a white gel pen, foam adhesive, a ruler, a bone folder, and a paper trimmer. Not bad! Other than that, I tried to use only items from the kit.

What can you make with the Junior Stamper Kit? Leave us a comment telling us what's you or your children are doing with the kit. :)

I Heard You're Amazing...

Hi all! Kristina here with another card. :)

Today's card is all about the aqua! (If you couldn't tell--Ha!) The three different colors of aqua cardstock in Hero Arts' Pool Mixed Layering Paper pack were perfect!

As for stamping, I used the Shoot for the Stars stamp set for all the main portion of the card, and Hero Arts' Designer Woodgrain stamp for the texture on the darker aqua cardstock on the inside of the card.

Be sure to watch the video to see how I completed the inside of the card. I generally don't do anything on the inside of cards so that I can write a message to the recipient, but I decided to have a sentiment stamp on the inside to complete the message. :)

Enjoy!

Cards for Maddy Update!

Hello everyone!

I have an update for you! Back in a post back on July 13th, we introduced you to Maddy, her sister Melanie, and their parents Tim and Marizel! Tim is a close friend to Jason, Heidi's husband, and gave him the opportunity to work at a job that would support the beginning phases of Simon Says Stamp!

Maddy, a beautiful 13 year old girl, is currently fighting Acute Myeloid Leukemia and has been under going chemotherapy for 6 months. Melanie and Maddy just recently went through a stem cell transplant, and here is a brief excerpt explaining the day from their mom Marizel:

"Tim is coming into the room with Melanie. He is pushing her in a wheelchair, and she is still wearing her hospital gown; her face is pale, a look of exhaustion washes over her, and tears are streaming down her face. She looks at Maddy and up at her own cells being infused into her sister, and she is sobbing. She stretches her hand out, and Maddy reaches for it. The girls finally touch. One, the source of health, strength and life; the other, a symbol of inspiration, courage and hope. That moment is one I will never forget...words cannot even describe the feeling. The entire room was flooded with emotion. I watch the girls and cry uncontrollably. The look on their faces tells me that "they get it"; they truly understand what this all means. Melanie willingly and without hesitation sacrificed a part of herself to save her sister's life. Maddy, grateful beyond words for the gift she received, and grateful for an end to months of chemo and grueling procedures.".

As we all hope and pray that the transplant ends up being the cure, we also want to thank everyone for the cards they sent! The whole family enjoyed seeing all the different countries the cards came from!

Our dear friend Jana Millen is now doing her own card drive for Maddy and the family, and has AMAZING giveaways you could win if you participate! From dies, to stamps, to tools- it's definitely worth checking out! The cards need to be to Jana by September 30th, (she extended the deadline from September 14th) and she's drawing the winners soon thereafter. For more information on the drawing, check out Jana's post (and while you're there, check out her blog! She came to teach at Simon Says Stamp a few weeks ago and I was blown away at her skill!), or sign up to see Maddy's page and follow the progress here.

Thanks for all your support you've shown, and continue to show! We at Simon can only hope the best for this family!

Thanks Dear! (primary colors watercoloring)

Happy Tuesday! Kristina here. :)

Today's card started with the Oh Dear Silhouette stamp set from Pink Persimmon. I wanted to create a sort of label shape for the deer and sentiment, so I cut out an oval with a Silhouette cutting machine. But as you'll see in the video, I ended up adapting it a bit. :)

I used only three Distress Ink colors for the watercoloring. I specifically chose red, yellow, and blue—the primary colors—so that I could create the other colors of the rainbow. Watercoloring over an embossed image is so fun because the embossing areas resist the color!
