Tim Holtz 12 Days of Christmas Tag!

Tag_2

It's Tim Holtz's 12 Days of Christmas Tags straight from tim himself!

i can't believe the endless requests from so many of you asking for the "12 tags of christmas" to return again this year. thank you so much for sharing your excitement about the tags last year - who knew? i honestly didn't know if i would be able to find the time to do it again this year, but here we are...day 1! i enjoy the holiday season so much and especially like the creative side of it all. as far back as i can remember since i was a little kid, making things was all part of what we did around christmas time to celebrate. from the projects in school like glittered pine cones and paper link chains to ornaments made of dough - this time of year inspires many of us to make things by hand. throughout the year we often get too busy to take the time to be creative and make things, yet something about the season inspires us to take a little more time. hopefully for the next 12 days you'll take a little time for yourself and try out some of these techniques. whatever holiday you celebrate customized these to your own individual artistic style - just have fun with it all and enjoy the festive journey...

supplies: distress inks: fired brick, aged mahogany, peeled paint, vintage photo, distress stickles: fired brick, ink blending tool, mini mister, archival ink/jet black, glossy accents, heat tool, grungeboard, mask/concerto (tim holtz idea-ology); rubber stamps: lamp post P3-1338, music V1-1339, set CMS-048 (stampers anonymous); scissors, paper distresser, (tonic); (glue dots); tag, ribbon

1

step 1: place mask onto tag burnishing it lightly with your hand.

2

step 2: ink over mask with distress ink using an ink blending tool working in a twisting and tapping motion vs. a swiping motion to avoid lifting the mask off.

3

step 3: repeat until entire tag is inked - be sure to ink the tag with intense color.

4

step 4: ink stamp with archival ink and stamp over masked tag. (*be sure to use a waterproof ink for this step.)

5

step 5: when finished inking, wipe excess ink off mask. carefully remove mask by peeling it away from tag and return to storage sheet.

6

step 6: mist tag with water from mini mister to allow inks to start blending and bleeding into masked area. (*we used distress inks for the background because they are reactive with water and will spread out when wet and create various tones of color.)

7

step 7: dry inks with heat tool.

8

step 8: stamp lamp post grungeboard sheet with archival ink. let dry.

9

step 9: cut image out with scissors.

10

step 10: ink edges with distress ink using ink blending tool.

11

step 11: remove "joy" and "mini holly" from seasonal grungeboard pack.

12

step 12: ink pieces with distress ink using blending tool.

13

step 13: adhere grungeboard, lamp post and joy to tag with glossy accents.

14

step 14: cut holly pieces apart and adhere them to the lamp post with glossy accents.

15

step 15: drag paper distresser along the edges of the tag to create a tattered effect.

16

step 16: apply distress stickles over "joy" spreading it around with the tip of the bottle. let dry.

17

step 17: apply glue dots to lamp post.

18

step 18: tie ribbon on bells and adhere to tag with glue dots (*i like to use glue dots for any dimensional object since they hold on to just about everything and still allow it to stay flexible.)

now it's time for "my favorite things" giveaways! each day in addition to the technique, i am giving away a few fun and festive prizes from some of my favorite companies! be sure to tell your friends about the "12 tags of christmas" since the more unique visitors i get each day, the more prizes i will be giving away! for your chance to win each day, simply click the word "comments" below and leave a comment sharing your favorite things about the holidays. winners will be chosen at random and posted the following day with the next technique!!!

  1. I ABSOLUTLY *LOVE* this tag!!!!

My Favorite thing about the Holidays is that I get to unite with family! Being a Military wife we dont get to see our families as much as we would like. That's my favorite thing about the holidays oh and that's aside from getting to wake up and see the excitmemt on my childrens faces when they see what Santa has left them each under the tree each year!

    Happy Holidays!!
