Roberta Cardoni from the Shimmerz Paints Design Team created her own Washi Tapes!
Look how easy the steps are to recreate your own:
First, take double-sided tape (seen above is Sookwang Tape- and it's all the rage right now!) and remove one side of the paper to stick it onto cardstock. Leave the other side of the tape's paper in place.
Then, on the other side of the paper (so the tape strips are on the back) go crazy! Roberta used different screen templates, Shimmerz Paints, and stamp sets to create this beautiful chaos!
Next, she simply cut the paper into strips based off the size of tape she used!
Viola! Your own patterned Washi Tapes! I think this is extremely helpful for projects that you want to have a specific color scheme, because you could use inks that only compliment your design! Or if you want certain pictures/styles- just find a stamp set of doodle them yourself! Thanks Roberta and Shimmerz Paints for this inspiration!
The ingredients to make your own Washi Tape really are endless, but here are some to help get you started!

Simon Says Stamp Challenge! | Vintage Simon Says Stamp & Show Challenge
With summer just around the corner, my Washi tapes will have butterflies, bright colors, some vintage and some bubbles etc. Oooh with this wonderful tutorial, I can't wait to try this! Thanks so much for posting. Ive been wanting to try this!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the process of creating my own stop-motion film, so I would make Washi Tape featuring my animated characters and then use them to create my press kits. I'm also a big Disney fan ( worked at WDW for 3 years ), so I would make some Washi tape using images I took around the park when I worked there. The possibilities are endless!
ReplyDeleteWAUW this looks really awesome, and thanks so much for sharing this fabulous idea, now it´ll never be a problem to come up with something sssssuitable for any project, we´re working on, as we just make it to fit ha ha ha.
ReplyDeleteRoberta's design is gorgeous and includes the trendiest patterns--chevrons, hexagons, banners. I would include these geometrics and add stamp sets--maybe some Tim Holtz sets I haven't used enough, new Hero Arts clear stamps and Kristina Werner's card kit stamp sets.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this great creative idea. I would love my washi tape to have lovely summery colours and butterflies.

This looks like fun! I love dots for my Washi tape.

Great idea! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteCool idea. thanks for the tutorial.
ReplyDeleteI think I would love to make polka dot washi tape in every color of the rainbow.
ReplyDeleteChevrons on washi tape would be awesome!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the idea. I have been using doublesided tape for years (I prefer it to everything else eventhough it takes a bit more effort, lol) but I have never thought of doing this. A fabulous idea!!!!
ReplyDeleteI often have a scrap piece of paper beside my projects on which I stamp off designs, make a swipe of color to see if it's the right color before using it on a project, spritz to see if I like the effect, etc. Some of the papers take on a life of their own and are quite striking. I'd probably use these, as I hate to throw some of them away. If I journaled more, I'd use them there, but I don't. {sigh}
ReplyDeleteI want to make stripes and dots and bricks.
ReplyDeleteI don't know...I really like the bright colors that she used, and I love the herringbone pattern. I think her tape would definitely be the centerpiece of the card! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteKatie B.
Thanks for the idea, your design looks great. Love it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I would do butterflies, flowers and dots on my washi tape! :-) xx
ReplyDeleteBrilliant idea and I would like one with body parts in bright and funky colours lol
ReplyDeleteI follow on Google Reader. I love the chevrons and stripes I've been seeing on washi tape, so I'd probably create that pattern. Thanks for the giveaway, I love anything shimmery! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea ... TFS!
ReplyDeleteI would probably use flourishes or music - seems to be my 'thing' at the moment - however that could change easily!!
ReplyDeleteLOoks like fun! tfs
ReplyDeleteAWESOME!!! Can't wait to try this out! Oh, my fave design??!! I'm going to try script or book print because at the moment I don't have that kind of washi tape! Thanks again for the cool tut!
ReplyDeleteWow! This is awesome! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI would have a flower design if I made my own washi tape just because I love flowers and summer is around the corner....thanks for sharing and the giveaway!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite would be polka dots because they are so usable. I had an idea to do a similar thing on masking tape because it's similar to washi tape.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I would have to say polka dots are my fave, but then there's chicken wire, chevrons, bricks, stripes, I could go on & on.
ReplyDeleteMy Washi Tape will have lots of flowers, butterflies and soft colors.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips :)
A lovely idea to use double-sided tape. I've been making my own tissue tape like this for ages, and just stick it with a thin smear of PVA. It works like a dream :-) Maddy x
ReplyDeletewould make it with stars, flowers or dragonflies. looks like fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tutorial! I'll be creating some homemade zigzag and dotted washi tapes, I think. ;-)
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome idea! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI would make polka dot washi tape...I love those little dots.
ReplyDeleteShimmerz Paintz is new to me... would love to test drive! I think I would make some music-themed washi tape.
ReplyDeleteI think my fav would be different colored tree branches or a crackle design!
ReplyDeleteThis is one of those "duh" moments...why didn't I think of that!! Fabulous way to create washi tape! I would create a floral theme tape.
ReplyDeletecool! I think polka dots would be fun.
ReplyDeleteTiny flowers would be fun.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite things right now are gnomes and mermaids, so I would have to go with one or the other!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to have neon paint splattered washi tape!
ReplyDeleteSerena
Wow this is a great project :) I would probably start with polka dots in all different colors
ReplyDeletewonderful idea. I'd do music with lots of texture bits... dots and chevrons and netting type stamps. Infact that's just what I might do later tonight!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful idea, will certainly give it a try , thank you
ReplyDeleteTHANKS for sharing and for the chance to win!! Have a FABULOUS WEEK!! =)
ReplyDeleteLovely way to create your own washi tape!
ReplyDeleteand I'd like to win that candy, I'm always in for trying new products to see what I can achieve!
I would love to make some tape to go with monogrammed cards - I think I would cover the tape lightly with the monogram letters, then spritz and add dimensional features and colors.
ReplyDeleteGreat! Some savings by making our very own Washi tape! Thanks for the tutorial!
ReplyDeleteI would make some Washi tape using a Lego stamp that I have - I would use all the bright Lego colors. It would be so perfect for a thank-you card that I need to send to a 10 year old boy. I am so making this! Thanks for the how-to!

ReplyDeleteThis is the way to go to match what ever project you are working on.

ReplyDeleteThe thing is Washi is translucent and to me that is what makes it special. What you have here is just a thin strip of pretty cardstock or paper attached with tape. I have been doing this for years.
ReplyDeleteOh I have to say that making Christmas themed Washi tape would be the ultimate fun!

I think that an animal theme would be great, but have a few other things other than just animal stuff maybe.
ReplyDeleteI love those screen templates. Need to some of those!
