Create Your Own Washi Tape!

Hello readers! Today I have a super fun and creative blog idea from Shimmerz Paints! Shimmerz Paints are water-based paints that can completely transform your projects with shimmer and shine!

Roberta Cardoni from the Shimmerz Paints Design Team created her own Washi Tapes!


Look how easy the steps are to recreate your own:


First, take double-sided tape (seen above is Sookwang Tape- and it's all the rage right now!) and remove one side of the paper to stick it onto cardstock. Leave the other side of the tape's paper in place.

 Then, on the other side of the paper (so the tape strips are on the back) go crazy! Roberta used different screen templates, Shimmerz Paints, and stamp sets to create this beautiful chaos!


 Next, she simply cut the paper into strips based off the size of tape she used!

Viola! Your own patterned Washi Tapes! I think this is extremely helpful for projects that you want to have a specific color scheme, because you could use inks that only compliment your design! Or if you want certain pictures/styles- just find a stamp set of doodle them yourself! Thanks Roberta and Shimmerz Paints for this inspiration!

    With summer just around the corner, my Washi tapes will have butterflies, bright colors, some vintage and some bubbles etc. Oooh with this wonderful tutorial, I can't wait to try this! Thanks so much for posting. Ive been wanting to try this!

    I'm in the process of creating my own stop-motion film, so I would make Washi Tape featuring my animated characters and then use them to create my press kits. I'm also a big Disney fan ( worked at WDW for 3 years ), so I would make some Washi tape using images I took around the park when I worked there. The possibilities are endless!

    Roberta's design is gorgeous and includes the trendiest patterns--chevrons, hexagons, banners. I would include these geometrics and add stamp sets--maybe some Tim Holtz sets I haven't used enough, new Hero Arts clear stamps and Kristina Werner's card kit stamp sets.

    Thanks for the idea. I have been using doublesided tape for years (I prefer it to everything else eventhough it takes a bit more effort, lol) but I have never thought of doing this. A fabulous idea!!!!

    I often have a scrap piece of paper beside my projects on which I stamp off designs, make a swipe of color to see if it's the right color before using it on a project, spritz to see if I like the effect, etc. Some of the papers take on a life of their own and are quite striking. I'd probably use these, as I hate to throw some of them away. If I journaled more, I'd use them there, but I don't. {sigh}

    I don't know...I really like the bright colors that she used, and I love the herringbone pattern. I think her tape would definitely be the centerpiece of the card! Thanks for sharing!

    I follow on Google Reader. I love the chevrons and stripes I've been seeing on washi tape, so I'd probably create that pattern. Thanks for the giveaway, I love anything shimmery! :)

    My favorite would be polka dots because they are so usable. I had an idea to do a similar thing on masking tape because it's similar to washi tape.

    A lovely idea to use double-sided tape. I've been making my own tissue tape like this for ages, and just stick it with a thin smear of PVA. It works like a dream :-) Maddy x

    wonderful idea. I'd do music with lots of texture bits... dots and chevrons and netting type stamps. Infact that's just what I might do later tonight!

    I would love to make some tape to go with monogrammed cards - I think I would cover the tape lightly with the monogram letters, then spritz and add dimensional features and colors.

    I would make some Washi tape using a Lego stamp that I have - I would use all the bright Lego colors. It would be so perfect for a thank-you card that I need to send to a 10 year old boy. I am so making this! Thanks for the how-to!

    The thing is Washi is translucent and to me that is what makes it special. What you have here is just a thin strip of pretty cardstock or paper attached with tape. I have been doing this for years.
