Stretch Your Stamps!

Do you love to stamp!?  I SURE DO!!   It is my love of stamping that brought me into this extraordinary career, this industry, and the circle of wonderful friends surrounding us.  Cheers to STAMPING!!

Registration is open for the newest Online Card Classes interactive class -
Stretch Your Stamps! This class shares techniques and tips for getting the most from many different stamp styles. Each day of class focuses on a certain type of stamp - background, collage, borders, etc - and shows 5 cards (and 2 videos) using them creatively. With 50+ card ideas and 20+ videos, you will be sure to look at your stamps in a whole new light.

In addition to the teachers Kristina Werner and Jennifer McGuire, there are many fabulous guests and special appearances from stamp designers themselves, including Tim Holtz, Ali Edwards, Kim Hughes and Claudine Hellmuth. Simon Says Stamp is thrilled to sponsor this fun class. After signing up, you will also get a discount code to use when shopping with us! (Oh, and watch our newsletter  later this week for a way to get a few dollars off the class fee!)

I remember fondly the first time I stamped (art stamping, not just a smiley face on my homework paper ;) .  My sister called me in the middle of the night.  She lived over a hundred miles away, had young children, and a call from her at 1 am was alarming. When I answered she was excitedly screaming HEIDI!  YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE WHAT I DID TONIGHT!!  Knowing that I have always loved to "craft" and make things, she told me about stamping cards at a Stampin' Up! party.  I totally did not "get" it.... until..... I went to her house where she hosted her own Stampin' Up! party the very next weekend.  I was HOOKED!  SO HOOKED!   I loved the idea of making my own cards, sharing sentiments and making art!  Embossing, adding glitter, watercoloring.... OH MY!  It is so much more than stamping!

What's your story!?  Tell us about the first time you stamped and you will be entered to win a seat  in the upcoming "Stretch your Stamps" online class.   We will draw a winner Wednesday June 13 and post the winner on the blog.

Do tell!  I can't wait to hear your story!

Class runs from July 9 - 23. Hope to see you there! Head HERE for more information.
:) Heidi

  1. I met a Stampin' Up demonstrator at a Ladies' Wine and Cheese event and really liked the sample she made. She invited me and a friend to an stamping evening she was having and I agreed. I was VERY shocked when I got to her house and I was THE only person there. My friend couldn't make it and everyone else bailed. It was VERY strange since I'd only talked to her for about 10min previously and I had NO stamping history at all and had never heard of SU before I met her. In the end though, we made a few gorgeous cards, I bought everything to make my first stamped Christmas cards, I was completely sucked into it, and I met a wonderful person. :)

  2. My stamping journey also started with a Stampin' Up! Party. The Paper, ink, ribbons all coordinating in a color group with stamps in a set, I was so glad I didn't have to spend so much time trying to match colors or going out to a store to find individual stamps for one card.

  3. I was at my LSS and they showed me a stamp and emboss...the rest is history I was hooked at that moment 15 years ago.

  4. The first time i stamped it was with some cheap stamps that didnt work well on the page..or maybe it was my own error. I hated it and ignored stamps for a long time. I bought some Hero Arts stamps and fell in love. Now i am using stamps on my layouts all the time.

  5. My actual stamping just started a few yeas ago when a new friend offered me some stamps that were left in the office where she works by a student worker. I love it, and been doing it ever since. I mostly use digital stamps now but love to get inky sometimes still.

  6. My first stamping experience was really a culmination of trying desperately to enjoy it, but I just didn't. I just couldn't get it to "work" with my scrapbooking. And then I tried my hand at card making, oh my! I love it, I have a very small stamp collection, but I lust after new stamps constantly, I am a big fan of Tim Holtz especially those beautiful butterflies.

  7. Mine was a Stampin' Up party too! It was many years and several stamp sets ago, but I still have them all! Plus all the stamp pads and markers!

  8. I was a Den leader for my boys Cub Scouts (all 3 over the years). I was looking for decorations and invitations for Blue & Gold banquet. I was HOOKED!

  9. Back in 2005, my sister had just become a Stampin' Up! demonstrator and wanted to get a little experience doing demonstrations for parties so I volunteered to have one for her. I got hooked, big time. I ended up being recruited by my sister to be a demo. That lasted about 1 1/2 years until we moved to another state and I couldn't get any new customers in our new city (there were already a ton of SU! demos here). I didn't give up stamping or paper crafting, just expanded my products to include other brands. I love my stash of stamps and would love to get some new ideas to use them all. Thanks for the chance to win a spot in this class. I really loved the other Online Card Classes I have taken so far.

  11. Would LOVE to win a spot in the class! My first time stamping was with with my Mom while we made my wedding invitations and thank you cards. Tomorrow is our 13th wedding anniversary so I guess that makes it over 13 yrs ago. :)

  12. The first time I stamped was at a Stampin' Up! stamp a stack class. After completing 20 cards, I was hooked! And the rest, as they say, is history!

  13. My first experience in stamping was a new technique using clear embossing powder. I just loved how the embossing powder really gave the stamp image stand out and I was hooked!

  14. My friend was attending a Stampin' Up! Stamper's Ten group and they needed one more person to join to make the ten. I resisted because I said I didn't scrap book, but she said you could make cards and I thought, "that might be fun". I joined, then joined a couple of groups after that, and except for when I took a break when I had my son I have been stamping and card making ever since. :)

  15. I remember buying a 'leaf' stamp from the dollar store, which I used to embellish the envelope of my christmas cards. Then my children walked into a store that had just opened next to a rstaurant we frequented. It was the first scrapbooking store I have been into. I felt like a kid in a candy store. And the rest they say is history.

  16. A co-worker showed me her handmade card and I told how I always wanted to make my own cards...she sent me a link to Kristina Werner's videos on you tube and told me watch them to learn. I couldn't stop watching! I bought a Colorbox multi-color ink pad, some blank cards and a couple of stamp sets and I loved it immediately, even though I was terrible and didn't tap into my own creativity for about 4 months!

  17. The first time I stamped was about two years after I started scrapbooking. Someone sent me a Stampin' Up! catalog as a RAK. I opened the catalog on a horse set and that's all it took. I ordered the set and entered the wonderful world of stamping. I still have the set and it's still one of my favorites.

  18. My first stamping experience was to create a snowflake border for a scrapbook page.

  19. My daughter was in preschool at the time and I went to a Hero Arts demo at a local Hallmark store. I thought it looked like a lot of fun and something I could use to make bookmarks, party invitations, gift tags, etc to give to my daughter and her preschool friends.
She is 29 year old now! I guess the new "hobby" kind of grew on me!

  20. I first started a card making class, making very basic cards, as we went on in the class we started to add stamping as well :) That was 8 years ago now and I have necer looked back! :)

  21. A friend who was a demo for The Angel Company at the time gave me a personal stamp class for my birthday in 2004. I didn't think it would be anything that I'd be interested in, but I was wrong. I made three or four cards and was hooked from that day forward!! Thanks for the chance to win!

  22. I got a bunch of the scrapbook frame style stamps and used this for my early scrapbooking pages. I think I had heard about them from Carol Duvall show.

  23. The first time I stamped was a couple years ago when I took a Christmas card making class at my local Archivers. I had the intention of starting scrapbooking first but saw this class that was coming up and wanted to do some handmade cards for my family especially for Christmas and it was the first Christmas away from them.

  24. The first time I actually stamped was for gift tags for my wedding. Archiver's had recently opened in my hometown, and one very stressed afternoon, I took a stroll in. LOVED the place and everything inside! One lap around the store and I had new amazing ideas on how to customize my wedding.

  25. I fell in love with stamping when I found a paw print stamp at the stationery store at University Village, here in Seattle. I was a sophomore in high school and already had a deep love of pens and paper :)
I used that paw print on ever homework assignment, note to friends, and journal entry I made until I graduated. I was so ahead of my time, too. I used markers to color my paw print stamp instead of a traditional stamp pad. I'd even use multiple colors.

  26. It's hard to remember, but I must have been less than 10. My mom was into the old school shirt painting, and she had some clear stamps that we inked in fabric ink and then filled in with puff/dimensional shirt paints. So old school but so true!

  27. I fell for 'stamping' years ago (hate to say when..do not want to date myself)
I was invited to a stampin up party by a friend

  28. Thanks for the chance to win. I saw a stamped card somewhere, and thought "I should do that for my husband's company holiday cards."

I spent $500 with a stampin' up demonstrator then spent two weeks making 400 cards!!!

  29. Hi...my sis started me on Stampin up stamps..I have her to thank for this wonderful addiction...but right now I am praying hard she gets to leave the ICU...she is so so very sick...hopefully one day she will get to resume her crafting..she is much more talented than I.

  30. I stamped my first card over 10 years ago after receiving a hand-made stamped and embossed Christmas card from my BFF. She told me to get some supplies and try it, and I did...I've been addicted ever since!

  31. Over 10 years ago I had started scrapbooking but had not done any stamping. A coworker brought in some cards she was working on, she was coloring the stamps with markers. I was mesmerized! Shortly thereafter I went to a local craft store for some supplies and then was invited to a Stampin' Up demonstration. I have been stamping ever since. The Online Card Classes are FANTASTIC!

  32. I "blame" my sister who introduced me to stamping & card making during one of her summer visits several years ago. Now I'm in a SU group that meets at least once a month an take card lasses at my LSS. My sister and I now have a friendly contest of "who has the MOSTstuff!"

  33. I had some stamps as a child but can't remember what I stamped. When I started crafting as a hobby, I bought a cute Inkadinkado dog stamp to make cards with.

  34. About 5 years ago, I was introduced to the art of scrap booking and then decided to try my craft at cardmaking, I initially only used patterned paper and remember asking my hubby to write the sentiments (his handwriting is much better then mine), knowing not to impose on his time everytime I made a card, bought my first stamp... A Happy Birthday stamp and I have been hooked since!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. The first time I stamped was when I bought a heart set from Hero Arts and made a card for Mother's Day. :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. The first time I started dabbing it was last year for the baptism of my daughter. My mother wanted me to do absolutely my own boxes dragees (I was not motivated to two weeks of baptism over the job).

That's why how I started scrapping and stamping, making lots of little heart deep mauve purple clear on paper that I then puncture with a perforated scalloped heart (I've never said to my mother but the worst is that I loved it). I used the heart to close the boxes in the back.

It took me a week (I did not have much choice I learned so much time deciding what I wanted, if I could I would have taken the store) to make all the boxes and all the decorations make it even more beautiful even if the white embossed paper was wonderful.

This is also why I started began spending my nights on the scrap (I did not sleep before midnight every night).

Since the problem has not been arranged, on the contrary I enrolled in an association, I scrap whenever I can and I think I can stop anytime soon.

Even if my banker preferred otherwise. He has so much to see and do, how scrapbooking offers so many opportunities and meet several passions. Only the 100% pure happiness.

  37. I was introduced to stamping through Stampin Up and since then have collected some of my favourites from a variety of designers. It's always a nice way to enhance a project!

  38. I attended a carnival at a nearby grade school where 2 of the employees were demonstrating making little treat holders. They were SU! demonstrators on the side and I signed up for a card class. They both became friends of mine and I took many classes and bought lots of product from them. It was only the beginning.... As with most crafters, I have a ton of money invested in tools and papers and embellishments, but it's a safer pastime than drinking excessively or smoking, and brings joy to me and those I give a handmade cards to. That's how I rationalize it anyway.

  39. First time I stamped was in a card class, so much fun. Loved it then and I still do. Thanks for the chance to win a spot.

  40. The first time I stamped was during a card class at a local scrapbooking shop. We stamped with Versamark Ink and used gold powder to emboss the image on the card. When the instructor stood by me as I used the heat gun for the first time, I thought she would have to pick my jaw up off of the floor! It was absolutely amazing and I was hooked.

  41. I can't remember the first time, but I am feeling excited about the last (most recent) time, which involved introducing a new friend to scrapbooking and stamping. she seemed to really enjoy it, so i am on an enabling high now!

  42. When I first came to live in Mauritius over 20 years ago, there were no cards. My cousin in South Africa had started stamping, and my mother bought me 3 stamps and some ink (A parrot, a group of butterflies and a Happy Birthday!) Was hooked from the first impression.

  43. I can't remember the first time I stamped, but I can remember when I fell in love with stamping. I'd tried stamping but was always really intimidated by it....I felt like I didn't "get" it. Then one day I discovered the website of a certain Tim Holtz. =) I stayed up past 1 AM watching and re-watching all of the videos on his site, and then when I finally did go to bed I couldn't sleep because I was so excited about what I'd seen! I finally "got" it. I've loved stamping and playing with inks ever since. If somebody told me a couple of years ago I'd have the collection of inks and stamps I have now I would have thought they were crazy! =)

  44. My first stamps were handmade from potatoes in kindy.. i was hooked.

  48. I first tryed stamping about 1½ year ago, after I unfortunately had to be healthretired after several bg backsurgeries as I´ll never be able to work again, so my husbond bought me such a starterkit, that wasn´t really good, but since then it has only devellopped to a really big addiction he he he he. Thanks so much for this chance, it would be awesome to get a chance to learn more about it, as we have no classes here at all, but have to learn everything from small You Tube videos here, so to get a complete class would be so awesome.

  49. I kind of always made cards and hand made gifts. But when I was a little girl, I had many cute stamps already inked and I would decorate the walls in my room, my desk etc., which didn't please my mother at all. A few years later when rubber stamps were released in stores, I decided to use this creativity differently and started to mix the card making and the stamping. At first we didn't have that many so my stamping was basic but I was hooked! And then I discovered embossing, and you know how this ends
Thanks for the chance to win.

  52. My stamping journey started in the winter of 2011. My friend is a stampimg, card making goddess! She had been slowing bringing me into the world of card making when she offered to hold a baby shower for my daughter. The invitations were so special. Then she started taking me with her to her favorite c, stamping supply vendors. Christmas season came along and there was a card sample in one of the stores. I was hooked! I had to make that card of my Christmas cards. I couldn't find the stamp set though. I searched the internet and found my new source for supplies and inspiration.........Simon Says Stamp! My Christmas cards were a success!!! Now with the monthly card kits and YouTube videos .... my days are filling with stamping, cards and now my first mini scrapbook...look out world!

  53. My first stamping journey started in July of 2010 and all I can remember thinking about was all the "stuff" that I needed to buy for 1 card!!! LOL I got the brilliant idea to make Christmas cards and once those were done, I was so hooked, I couldn't stop. Fast forward to today and I have a whole room loaded with all kinds of goodies and so many techniques under my belt. I'm so happy that I found this hobby.

  54. In the late '60's, I had quite a few penpals. Someone started passing around "friendship" books, round robins of sorts. A lot of gals, including me, were carving their own stamps from pencil erasers and block erasers. I used highlighter pens to color the erasers and then stamp!! I even made note card sets and sold them to my kids' teachers. Sad to say, I don't have any of those self-made stamps now!!

Fast forward to the mid-90's - a LSS demonstrated heat embossing and the rest is history!!! LOVE stamping!!

  55. A friend of mine convinced me to leave my son home for a night and come out to a Stampin up card class and I was hooked. Since then I have learned so many new techniques and have taken several classes including the 3 Jennifer taught in Buffalo. Great experience!! Love stamping!

  59. Mine was quite similar Heidi - except it was a close friend that I scrapbooked with became a Stampin Up demonstrator back in 2006 and funny as it was she was so particular and precise with her scrapbooking but her cards she would just let loose - her husband even said she should stick to the card making! I fell in love with stamping too - hard not too but I use them on all sorts of things not just cards! I had a bit of a hiatus for 18 months but now back into the swing of things and loving it all over again!

A few days after that I was looking for stamps (postage) in Google and came across a video from Jennifer...bought my first Penny black set and 2 HA background stamps...I immediately joined Hero Arts flickr group, where I was welcomed by so many talented and creative sweet ladies. This filled the creativity void of my life and rest is precious history:).
I would love to join the class to learn to use these precious stamps to the fullest. Thanks for a chance to win.

  62. I started at a Stampim Up party too with my colleagues at work. We started a club where each bought a minimum amount so that each person got a chance to be the hostess. We had so much fun gathering each month or sitting in the teachers' lounge combing through the catalog deciding what to get. That was in 2001 and the stampin spots I bought back then still have a little juice in them!

The kids and I had so much fun making that gift paper together. I honestly don't remember what I got for Christmas that year but I'll never forget how excited my kids were to see their Nanna, Pappa, Aunts and Uncles ohhing and awwing over the gift paper they'd made.

  80. I actually started stamping way back when I was a kid back in the early 90's -- my best friend in my tae kwon do class had a set of kids' rubber stamps and I was hooked. I had a wicked collection of foam rubber stamps and wood mounted rubber stamps, but as I grew older, I got into other things. We eventually moved and I don't know where my collection went. :( But I just started picking it up again as I got into Project Life and scrapbooking!

  81. When I first got into scrap booking, I was overwhelmed with all of the products, techniques etc. Every time I went to the store I walked right past the stamps saying "No, I am not going to get into stamping" HAHAHA
that did not last long! I do not have alot of stamps, I am very particular because of lack of space. But I love distress inks and embossing and use them all the time now!

  82. I went to a MOPS (Mother's of Preschoolers) meeting when my youngest was around age 1. Someone demonstrated how to make gift tags using stamps. I thought "I can do this" and went to our Hobby Lobby and bought a couple of stamps and some black ink. I went home, pulled out some drawing paper, some crayola colored pencils, and began creating. Now several years later, I am so into this craft. I own way more stamps than I really need, but find it hard to part with any of them. It is very relaxing and fun for me to be able to create.

  90. My First stamping experience was when I walked into Michaels and discovered the stamping isle!! It was dangerous. They even had a book on an introduction of how to use the stamps. There was no turning back; I had to buy everything right then and there! Looking back at the first cards I made, they were NOT as good as they are now (Thanks to the wonderful Kristina!) I’m planning on taking this class! I am looking forward to it!

  96. When I first time went to scrapbooking store I knew that I needed stamps to personalize my pages. I decided to start with a set of old typer style characters because I thought they will be versatile. And I'm still using this stamp set.

  97. First time I stamped was about 7 years ago. My son and his (then) fiance asked me to make their wedding invitations. I had always been sort of crafty, but never did any stamping. I bought a sweet little flower stamp from Michael's and made 30 invites featuring that flower stamped in silver. And, I was hooked. From there, a stamping up party...and the rest, as they say, is history.

  99. The first time I stamped was about 12 years ago, stamping was not as popular as it is now. My Aunt sent me a roller stamp with hearts on it and a red stamp pad. I had so much fun using it to make my own wrapping paper and cards etc... To this day I still have the stamp roller and I still use it all the time. Along with about a bazillion other stamps...ha ha. Thanks for sharing a spot to win the class, it looks like a great class.

  100. I started stamping when a local art store offered classes. We learned to stamp and emboss and I bought several stamps and ink pads that night. Then, I was introduced to Stampin' Up and invited my friends to come and that was the real start of a long (14 year) love affair with all things paper, stamp, embellishment related. I now have a whole craft room dedicated to this hobby and absolutely love it. These on-line classes are wonderful and thank you for a chance to win a spot.

  101. My first stamping experience about four years ago at a Stampin Up card camp. We were shown three different cards to make by the Stampin Up rep and than we all gave it a try to duplicate her cards. Nervously, I made all three and they didn't turn out too bad. That was the beginning; I was hooked!

  107. I bought a MS "punch around the page" last Christmas (2011) and made a few Christmas cards. I really didn't do much more until I went to work on teacher's gifts. In July of last year I was on FB and noticed that my DD's teacher was a SU! demonstrator. We started chatting and she told me about Splitcoast Stampers. Ever since then...I have been absolutely addicted!!!!

  111. I have already registered for the class, but here's my story anyway. I'm a newspaper reporter and about 5 or 6 years ago I covered a "ladies-day-out" type of event to write several feature stories about preparing for the holidays. One of the workshops was a mini-class by the LSS owner on making your own Christmas cards. The design included stamping; I tried it and was hooked - that led to card making, which led to scrapbooking, which let to all types of papercrafting. Funny thing is that the photographer from the paper who was with me that day got hooked also, although neither of us knew it until we exchanged handmade Christmas cards the following year! Now we go to crops together!

  112. I don't remember when I first started stamping, must have been when I was a kid. I do remember when I first started collecting stamps back in the early 1980's - that's 30 years ago! They weren't as easy to get but I know All Night Media, Rubber Stampede and Hero Arts were the ones I mostly purchased. Plus the sidewalk artists in Berkeley sold ones that they made.
