Shari Carroll is a designer for Hero Arts Rubber Stamps and has been with them for 25 years. As one of the most experienced members of our industry, she loves creating projects using stamps, paper and ink. Shari is an EXPERT! Recently Shari came to Simon and taught us some great techniques to use in STRETCHING our Simon Card Kits! Below you can see Shari with our Simon teammate, Terra, showcasing the clipboards Shari showed us how to make with our "Flower Girl" Card Kits.
I've had the immense pleasure of getting to know Shari better through our mutual friend, Jennifer Mcguire. Jennifer is an incredible people connector and wonderful human being. She brings the people in our great stamping community together at every chance she gets. I'll be forever grateful for that.
One of the things I appreciate most about Shari is that she is a straight shooter. Know what I mean? She has a refreshingly funny & candid soul. She has a warm heart, an expert eye, and a delightful zest for life. Inside and out, she is a beautiful woman. Thank you so much to Shari for joining us in our STAMPtember™ festivities! You bring enjoyment of card making to the forefront!
Did you know that Shari is the innovator behind many of the Hero Arts exclusive ink colors and specifications? The mid-tone inks are so perfectly creamy and are perfect for rubber stamping! Be sure to check out Shari's blog. She has an extra special coupon code for you and you won't want to miss it! Watch the video below and see some fabulous tips and tricks for stamping! I love Shari's solution for creating her son's name "Brooks" even though she only had one "o" stamp!
A note from Shari:
Today is my son Brooks' 25th birthday!!! Whoa... not sure how that happened but it did! To celebrate (and to appropriately stuff with birthday cash) I created this card using a variety of inks and stamps that fit his personality. I also couldn't resist using the new Simon Says Stamp on the edge die cut ABSOLUTELY.
Supplies:
Happy Birthday to Brooks! As we mentioned before, Shari has been working with Hero Arts over 25 years! We'd love to hear how long YOU've been stamping!? Comment below and tell us your story :) One lucky commentor will receive a delightful Simon Says Stamp goody bag! (ABSOLUTELY Delightful!)
From all of us to all of you..... HAPPY STAMPtember™!!!!

I started stamping about 25 years ago also! Started out when my daughter was in preschool, after attending a Hero Arts demo at a Hallmark store! My daughter is now 29!
ReplyDeleteDeniseB
I used to Demo at Hallmark stores in Southern California!
DeleteI have been stamping at least 20 years... I remember the way I had to emboss back then was to have wave my card over an electric stove. I don't think they had embossing guns back then.. Haha. OMG I AM SOOOO OLD!
ReplyDeleteToaster ovens and light bulbs... embossing was so primitive back then! I am on my 2nd Milwaukee heat gun, my first one lasted 17 years!
DeleteI started stamping about a year and a half ago after I decided I wanted to start something to express my creativity. I have now got my mum and sister into doing it to, and we love to have crafty sessions together!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the wonderful video! I started stamping about 18 months ago. It was not something I really set out to do. I was making blank books by hand and was looking for different ways to decorate the covers. I stumbled across card blogs and I was hooked! I was big into knitting for about 10 years, but that was nothing compared to how much I love cardmaking!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a "newbie" like Kristy, above, am retired, a grandmother, and suddenly have some time for myself... I started stamping and card making about a year and a half ago, after seeing so much about it on-line. I actually started in earnest after faithfully watching Kristina Werner's videos every Monday & Friday, then taking all of the classes she teaches with Jennifer McGuire (Online Card Classes—they deserve a plug)! I have learned so much from you, too, Shari, through your website, your guest teaching in the Online Card Classes, and by watching Hero Arts educational videos, as well! Many thanks to all of you (SSS, included) who contribute so much to this great creative outlet!
ReplyDeleteWell it feels like forever but it's actually only been about two years for me. I used to do a lot if sewing but failing eyesight made it increasingly hard to do and I switched to papercrafts. Took to stamping like a duck to water, I LOVE it!!
ReplyDeleteI have started stamping about 2 years ago mainly encouraged by participating in the card making challenges.
ReplyDeleteI started collecting stamps about 10 or so years ago, mainly for scrapbooking, but with so many changes with work and additions to the family, I ended up packing up everything and putting it all away. Last year I found a few unopened boxes from our last move, and discovered all my craft stash - only a few inks had dried out, after 6 years in storage!! Now I mainly make cards, haven't made the leap back to scrapbooking yet, having too much fun. Now it's an even bigger craft stash to keep up to date with all the new stamps and Dies that are released.
ReplyDeleteI have been stamping for about 5 years now, and I'm falling in love with it even more every year. This year I have started to use stamps also in scrapbooking and it is just so much fun!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your son Shari. It´s also my sons birthday today, but he´s turning 35 instead of 25, so I feels terrible old today too LOL. I´ve always been doing some kinds of crafting my entire life, as I´m from that time, when girls HAD to learn all kinds of crafting, before they got married ha ha ha, and yes crafting has certainly changed sinse back then, that´s for sure, but I absolutely love how it´s been devellopped over the years, and I really love all the stuff we can get for the stamping today, it makes you able to do almost anything you can even think of, so today the biggest problem is to get the great ideas ha ha ha. SO I can only thank you guys for all the wonderful inspiration, you always share here on your blogs, that is so awesome. Have a great day everyone and lots of stamping fun.
ReplyDeleteI started with digital stamping, didnt really think that rubber stamps were all that lol. Now two years later I am a rubber stamp addict.
ReplyDeleteShari Carroll's creations are always amazing. I was lucky to take a class with her last year at my local stamp store and she is so very nice as well! I started taking classes and making card approx. 3 years ago. A lot of the time I have gone to things by myself but everyone is always so friendly. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteKatie B.
I started stamping about a three years ago. Thanks for the chance to win and the lovely video!
ReplyDeleteI started stamping by carving my own linoleum block not long after I graduated from college. I made my own Christmas cards that year and used matches to distress (burn) the edge of the paper--how hilarious!!! The first manufactured stamps I purchased at Pier 39 in San Francisco over 24 years ago. Guess what brand I purchased? Hero Arts! Thus began (along with my then 5 yr. old daughter) a lifelong passion & hobby. I think stamping is one of the safest, most rewarding addictions to be found!
ReplyDeleteI started stamping when I started scrapbooking back in 2010. Alphabet stamp set and black ink pad were among the first purchases. And still I'm learning more and more fun ways of using stamps.
ReplyDeleteShari has always been one of my faves! I started stamping about 15 years ago when my mom showed up at my house with a bag of stamps, inks and paper to gift me. I been right at it since.

ReplyDeleteThanks so much for a great tutorial!!! I love how you used the 'absolutely'. Can't wait for mine to arrive. The colours are perfect and what a great tip for lining up your stamps! Thanks again!! I have been stamping forever - but as far as the stamping/scrapbook world goes - probably about 15yrs. I had lots of stamps when I was a kid, too!!
ReplyDeleteI finally decided to pick up scrapbooking 3 years ago stepping into my LSS to pick up my first few supplies! But art was in my blood I tell you; I started stamping way back when I was in Kindie (20+ years ago?). Well I don't know if that counts but I remember how I used to collect those self-inking little cartoon and animal 'chops' as we call them here, and I'd stamp them everywhere! On my books, my desk, my hands, on cards etc :)
ReplyDeleteI was not a stamper, at all, until I started the most awesome job in the world over 2 years ago - working at Archiver's! I was then introduced to it, and quickly realized how much I was missing. It was a whole 'nother world! I love your card, and those stamps you used are great!
ReplyDeleteI started stamping about 10 years ago, and I'm totally addicted. It all started when a friend sent me a hand-stamped card. She was taking classes and needed to send her cards to someone, and I was it. Later that year, while on vacation, I happened into a craft store that had a stamping demo. I saw heat embossing and I left $200 later. I've never regretted it for a moment.
ReplyDeleteWow wow wow! This is amazing Shari! I think I've been stamping around 8 years. And have loved every minute of it
ReplyDeleteTwo years ago, I found some cute litte stamps that got me hooked - I´ve always liked crafting, paper and colours and then stamping came my way :O)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your great inspirations and stories - it´s a lot of fun visiting your blog!
Greetings, Christine
WoW! Thank you so much for sharing and happy birthday to your son :) I started stamping about 4 yrs ago but put it on hold (as well as all my other scrapbooking) for a while since we were moving to a different city and had 2 kids back-back but picked it back up in the last year!! Still consider myself a newbie but I enjoy the learning process so much :)
ReplyDeleteLoving this card!! Absolutely!! ;)
ReplyDeleteI took my first stamping class around 2000/2001, but I didn't get really into it until much later - about 2009. I love it so much! Especially the smaller format (smaller than scrapbooking) that allows me to finish a project fairly quickly and see the results. :)
Love all the wording on the card!! I started stamping about 3 years ago and truly enjoy creating!

ReplyDeleteI love the graphic feel to Shari's card and those inks seem to work beautifully with clear stamps. More to have to add to the supply??? I started making cards three years ago and never seem to have enough stash. Shari, you're lucky to be at THE source.
ReplyDeleteI just love Shari's creativity, she is amazing and so inspiring. I started stamping about 6 years ago and am totally addicted to crafting. It really makes me happy when I am making a card or thinking about a scrapbook page!!!

ReplyDeleteThis is the PERFECT card for a man in your life - AWESOME SHARI!!!
ReplyDeleteI have been stamping since I was a child, in some manner, but did not become a "stamper" until 2003.
Thank you for putting into words exactly how I feel about Shari! She's THE BEST!! Love her fabulous, creative card and I always enjoy her wonderful videos!
ReplyDeleteI started out scrapbooking when my boys were little. That lead me to cardmaking and stamping about 3 years ago - I'm definitely hooked, and one of the reasons is Shari's amazing talent! :)
I started stamping as a kiddo but I didn't get "into" it as an adult until 2008. I blame grad school :P
ReplyDeleteWhat a happy card and the patience to use all those colors - WOW! I'm new to the whole stamping world - been experimenting with it for a couple of years at most... I've been loving the expert advice here for Stamptember! Thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteThis card is just AWESOME! I so love it!
ReplyDeleteLOVE EVERYTHING about that card. The colors are darling, the die cut colored with Copics, the place of the words. LOVE!
ReplyDeleteI have been stamping for about 11 years. Started with a group of teachers when we took a scrapbook class that led to a Stampin Up party... etc etc.. many of the us from the original still craft!
I've only been stamping for two years.
ReplyDeleteI took a class at my local stamp
store and became completely and
hopelessly addicted.
I started stamping 15 years ago when I was a teen. But I wasnt very good then. I have been stamping again the last year and I have learned so much and so many different techniques. Love your card.
ReplyDeleteI collected rubber stamps as a kid. I don't know how old I was, maybe 10. I remember having one that had my name on it, a mouse holding a pencil and a wizard of oz stamp. I had a drawer designated for my stamps. I remember buying my first jar of gold embossing powder and when using it would heat it up on the stove.
ReplyDeleteI took a hiatus from stamping for quite a while, until I started scrapbooking again in my 20s. Now I don't think I could scrap without my stamps!
I've been stamping for around 18 years. A friend of mine had gotten into it and was showing me how much fun it was. I remember saying to her, "I'm glad that it's fun for you. I just can't see me doing that." Then, she gave me all the stuff to make one card as a birthday present. The rest is history. I was/am hooked.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Love all the bright colours! I have been crafting since I was five, but just got into stamping about 5 years ago. I couldn't imagine crafting without my stamps!
ReplyDeleteDeanne :)
I have been stamping for about 2 years and LOVE it! The card Shari made is amazing! love the colours and the graphic design. Perfect for a 25 yr old male!
ReplyDeleteI'd always wanted to make my own cards and in early 2010 a co-worker showed me a card she'd made and she told me I could go on you tube and find videos and I found Kristina Werner's videos and started by buying a few supplies teaching myself to stamp with Kristina's videos. Now I have my own craft space in our 2nd bedroom, an etsy store, and spend way too much money at Simon Says Stamp!
ReplyDeleteI've been collecting stamps for about 10 years! Love it! Happy Stamptember!
ReplyDeleteI am so inspired by Shari and have followed her for many years. She's the one who got me into stamping about 4-5 years ago. Before that I don't know what I did with all my time.
ReplyDeleteI love watching Shari's videos. She is a crafting, stamping,video- making genius. I've been stamping for so long I can't remember when I started.(He he.)Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteWow! Shari's card is fabulous and the video is just great! I always learn so much from her tips and techniques! I saw a guest artist interview with her in Stamper's Sampler years ago and just knew she was going to be a "Stamper Super Star"! I've been stamping and making cards for over 10 years and was first introduced to the craft at a Stampin' Up Workshop with many different techniques being shown. I was impressed with all you could create with paper, stamps, ink and etc. and was hooked!!!
ReplyDeleteI've always had some kind of stamps around but have really picked it up more recently since I started making cards for Operation Write Home. I have even ventured into coloring them with Copic markers.
ReplyDeleteI really like how stamps can be the focus or background images.
I love the birthday card for Brook, with all the different phrases. Will definitely have to try that!
I stamped as a kid but I didn't start again until this year!

I LOVED the FUN Video that Shari shared with us today!! So NEAT!! THe colors are GREAT TOO!! Hope your son has an AMAZING 25th Birthday!! =) Have some cake for me too!! I started stamping when I was a senior in High School!! I made all of my graduation invitations with a cute Bear Stamp!! =) I went to college and got my first job and didn't stamp again until after the scrapbook store opened almost (6 years later)!! I went to stamp and scrap on my days off and have been stamping ever since almost 10 years now!! THANKS for sharing and for the chance to win!! Have a FABULOUS WEEK!! =)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous card. The colours look great together. :)
ReplyDeleteI started card crafting a few years ago but only started hard core stamping last year, when making Christmas cards for my family. Thanks for the inspiration.
I have been stamping for less than a year. I found Jennifer McGuire's and Kristina Werner's blogs. Their videos made stamping look easy, so I had to try. I've been hooked ever since! :)
ReplyDeleteI got my stamping craze during a lONG road trip to Colorado this past March (2012). I purchased a cardmaking magazine and read it cover to cover - OVER & OVER again. By the time I got back home I just had to try out the many products listed in the magazine. I explored the web, took a class this summer - "Stretch your Stamps" and have been following both Jennifer McGuire's and Kristina Werner's blogs ever since. Shari, I just love the Stamptember guests! I have seen SO many wonderful ideas and practical suggestions. Thanks for sharing your talent with others.
ReplyDeleteGosh, I thought I had posted earlier in the day. Shari, my first 'embossing gun'(tool?) was actually a REAL heat gun that got up to super hot temps. and could set the paper on fire in seconds...and it is getting time to replace my real heat fun after many, many years of use, and it has been acting so 'wonky' lately, I have threatened to go to the garage and get the original one. (oh well, there are other priorities right now--such as finding a job, to have the money to replace it)
ReplyDeleteAnywhooo, Shari's card was great--a DREAM day would be to spend a day(or more) @SSS with all your great staff and have Jennifer, Shari and Kristina share their great talents and make some fun projects---well, may as well dream big!!!
I've been stamping since 2008 when I was creating my custom-made wedding invitations. It's definitely advanced to a type of obsession lol!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been stamping as long as Brooks has been alive (Happy 25th Brooks!), but probably about 10 or 11 years. I started by watching a demo by a couple of SU! reps at a school carnival and signed up for a class right then. It's a fun hobby, but I wish I had more time to devote to it. I love this card and all the well-thought-out details. I know Brooks will love it and cherish it. I can't remember a card Shari's done that I haven't loved. She's one of the best.
ReplyDeleteI was lucky enough to be introduced to stamping by my friend that I met in our antenatal class for our first child. She has just turned 11. So 11 years for me and I love it! Thanks for the chance to win. And thanks for having wonderful Shari on as she is simply awesome.Karen

ReplyDeleteLove that card! I've been stamping on and off for about 15 years.
ReplyDeleteGreat card! Shari is so talented. I started stamping about a year and a half ago at my 1st card class. I had been scrapping for about 8 years prior to that. Now I'm finally stamping on layouts!
ReplyDeleteI love stamping and just found it in the last 2 years, and boy am I glad I did! I became a blogger through youtube when I stumbled upon a tutorial... through blogging I began to see more and more works with stamps and knew I had to try it, and now I'm completely addicted! THanks so much! Love the tutorial!
ReplyDeleteWow Shari's birthday card to Brooks is so handsome looking and fabulous! I have been stamping since 2002, but only started a blog last year. Thanks for the chance some goodies!
ReplyDeleteI started officially stamping in the summer of 2010 on scrapbooking pages. The fall of 2010 I started cardmaking. I bought my first stamp in 2002, inspired by my teachers when they came and checked your homework and stamped your paper. I stamped my written journal pages or when I gave my friend a pass a note. I love stamping and coloring cardmaking and learning different things that are available and types of art..... I would love to be well experience and teach others of all ages
ReplyDeleteStunning card!! I started stamping in 1998 after attending a Stampin' Up! home class. It was love at first stamp!
ReplyDeleteThis card is amazing! I may have that die enroutevto me, and may have preordered that alpha!! I have been stamping for 12 years, primarily cards, but I do scrapbook some as well. Just love this hobby!
ReplyDeleteLet's see... stamping started when I was teaching, so about 20 years ago (gah!), but as a serious crafter and cardmaker, about 5 years ago.
ReplyDeleteThis card is amazing! I may have that die enroutevto me, and may have preordered that alpha!! I have been stamping for 12 years, primarily cards, but I do scrapbook some as well. Just love this hobby!
ReplyDeleteI so wish I could come up with such beautiful card designs!!! This is so gorgeous Sharri, thank you for the fun tips and tricks. I've only been stamping for about 3 years :)
ReplyDeleteI bought my first stamp probably 9 years ago (hero arts harlequinn alpha set!), but got hooked after a stampin' up demo in 2006 or 2007. When I first started, it was frustrating because my cards never turned out as nice as other people's. I finally stopped comparing and just had fun. :) my cards turned out better (or at least I thought they did), and I found a great hobby/obsession!
ReplyDeleteI began stamping about 13 years ago, and have always loved it. But about three years ago I really got into it and have been taking classes and watching videos, and have become really addicted. Read as: buying heaps of stamping supplies and making loads of cards!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely adore your card, Shari! It's a great card for both genders, and would work for just about any age group!
Great card! I started stamping 12 years ago ... I was shown how to emboss a stamped image with embossing powder, and I was hooked. I'm so happy to have discovered the stamping world :)
ReplyDeleteGreat card! I started stamping seriously about a year ago. Before that I did stamping 6-7 years ago but very casually.
ReplyDeleteI have been stamping for over twenty years now and consider it my therapy. My husband would agree with that.
ReplyDeleteI L.O.V.E. this card! I have been stampin for
ReplyDeleteabout 20 years and have tried diffent techniques but they never look quite as good as
this card, however, I enjoy what I do and that's
all that really matters!
I walked into an Archiver's store about 2 years ago and Mary Ann showed me how to emboss and use clear stamps on an acrylic block. It amazed me and I've been stamping on cards ever since :)
ReplyDeleteI've been stamping in some form or another for probably about 10 years. I started in high school when I wanted to make cards for friends but didn't have the money to buy. So I made my own! Things have come a long way since then!
ReplyDeleteLove the card! Lots of great colors and the "Absolutely" looks so cool, especially popped up!
ReplyDeleteI've been stamping for maybe 15 years. My sister got me into it and then became a Stampin' Up! demonstrator and while I still try and purchase from her, I've found that my latex allergy makes me sensitive to rubber, so I prefer to buy clear stamps.
I've been stamping for maybe 15 years, but seriously stamping for about 10.
ReplyDeleteI love your card, just wonderful. I've been stamping for 14 years.
ReplyDeleteOnly for 4 yrs! But loving it!
ReplyDeleteI began stamping in the early '90s when visiting a local resort gift store noticed their display. I now have with all the cling sheet sets probably 1200 stamps, punches, dies, 50 inks+ and my laundry room work space is filled with stamping craft stuff. I recently began working with Operation Write Home to use my products more often. your Brooks is one lucky fellow!
ReplyDeleteOnly for 4 yrs! But loving it!
ReplyDeleteI began stamping about 8 years ago, after doing a make'n take at a crop. it was addictive lol
ReplyDeleteI've been stamping for about 9 years. Loving it still!

Beautiful card! Thanks. I have been stamping for about 2 years now and love every minute of it.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I have no idea how long I've been stamping! I feel like it's been a part of my life 'always' as I can't remember a definite point in time when I decided to start stamping. So sorry, I can't answer your question! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great example of using a variety of stamp sets on a single project. Shari is awesome. I love her grin in the picture too - she just LOOKS like a fun person.
ReplyDeleteLove your use of stamps. I have been Stamping for a couple of months, or trying to, since my 20 month old can't bare to see me sit at my craft table. :)
ReplyDeleteShari's card is awesome as always! Love the combination of of dies and stamps and the colors! Zing! I've been stamping for about 15 years now and have quite a collection of stamps, but you can never have too many!
ReplyDeleteI've been stamping for 4-5 years and I really love it. Once you have the stamp...using it a million times is still the same price! I love stamps and I will always hoard them. Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteI started stamping about 5 years ago... on my scrapbook pages :)
ReplyDeletefabulous card Shari :-) I am sure your son loves this :-)

Lols x x x
I started stamping about 8 years ago, by creating all my Christmas cards for that year. I got overwhelmed and gave it up for a few years before falling back in love with the craft. So much has changed even in the last few years but I love it more than ever.
ReplyDeleteI ABSOLUTELY love this card! And certainly have the die on my wish list. I started stamping about 18 years ago (can't believe that much time has passed) when I retired and needed to get myself out of the house once in awhile. I just wish 18 years of experience would equal Shari's natural talent!
ReplyDeleteI love Shari's tutorials. If we count stamping with our own hands, I'm in at 32 years. lol after that stamping with my kids hands on shirts for grandparents. Then on fabric like curtains or tablecloths with foam stamps and acrylic paints. Hit or miss rubbervstamping when Carroll Duvall was on tv. Serious and constant stamping, the last 3 years.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous card. Such a clean look, and still very colorful anf fun! :)
