Sizzlin' Sizzix Summer Stuff!!

Ice Pop Card
So I was on a supply trip to the store today and when I came back, I was greeted by a lovely surprise - supplies!! There was a pile of new Sizzix Dies for me to put away! If you are not familiar with these dies, I'm going to recommend that you meet them - they are fabulous because they can cut through "a variety of thick materials, including cardstock, chipboard, fabric, foam, magnet, leather, metallic foil, paper and sandpaper (in limited use)." At this point in time, I understand your astonishment - you may be saying to yourself "Leather?! They cut through leather?!" It's true. These dies are practically made for an infomercial. If you're like me, the Ice Pop Card reminds you of your childhood. Popsicles were a special treat for us, and I remember loving the option of either eating the double popsicle or attempting to break it in half and share it with a friend. It kinda seemed like either way you ate it, about 15% would melt down the stick and onto your hands or shirt.

The only practical solution after the popsicle melts all over you is... the pool! We had this small, plastic baby pool when we were younger that we would fill up with the garden hose. It was fun and refreshing, even though the water was breathtakingly cold at first. If we ever felt like actually swimming under water, we were less than two blocks away from the public pool. I remember how the cement scorched feet whenever we needed to make the journey from the chairs to the pool - flip flops were always a plus. And so, I'll now introduce the Flip Flop Card die (also by Sizzix). I really think this is adorable and, obviously, it brings back memories : ) As the picture suggests, it can be used for a pool party invite, but it could also work as a girl's spa day invitation (think pedicure!). Speaking of having nails done...I need to get on home so that I can paint mine! Have a lovely evening!

Oh - one more thing before I go, check out the Sizzix Big Shot Machine - it's what these dies need in order to be cut. A little extra bonus: this machine also works with other dies!! WAHOOOOO!!

Also, feel free to take a peek at some other Sizzix items below!!

Papers that Pop!!

I may have mentioned this before, but part of my job is to restock around the warehouse. This is something that I enjoy doing because it makes me feel productive and then I know when picking items for orders that if it's not on the shelf, we are most likely out of it. While restocking this week, I came across Green Woodland, a pack of paper by DCWV that I completely appreciate because it is made from 70% recycled paper!!! WOOO! Not gonna lie, I am a huge fan of the environment and anything I can do to help keep it clean makes me feel happy :D (see?). Anywho, this paper - it's really cute. It comes in 4.5 x 6.5 and 8 x 8 and it has various woodland characters - for example a skunk and these cute, but funny-looking beavers . In addition to the pages that are character-based, there are pages with patterns. I like the tree pattern and the mushrooms, especially. Fun fact: the mushroom paper could double as a gumdrop print!

Sweet Stack
Now that I think about it, we also have 4.5 x 6.5 and 8 x 8 cardstock stacks of DCWV paper in a line called Sweet Stack. It is probably something that my sisters and I would have fought over when we were younger (and maybe still now). Think very girly. Some of the pages have glitter accents, which is a lovely added touch - my personal favorite: the cupcake pattern page. Each cupcake is iced with glitter. They are truly beauteous. I also like the pastel plaid page.
Should you be feeling slightly more rock star-ish, I suggest the Rock Star cardstock stack. Why is it awesome? I'd like to cite the papers with the green background and the golden skulls. Was that anticlimactic? Wait for it...the skulls aren't simply gold, they are metallic gold! The awesomeness doesn't stop there, though -as the description on our website says, "this versatile collection ranges from rock and roll to couture - and contains foiled and flocked papers!" If that doesn't convince you of its greatness, I'm not sure what will. Maybe the colors?

Either way, DCWV has a wonderful collection of cardstock stacks, cards and envelopes, and chipboard shapes!!

Well ladies, gentlemen, and hoodlums, I am off to enjoy my weekend. Currently, it is thundering and lightning outside, but the rain hasn't come yet (knock on wood!)...the radio promises hail though, so I'm hoping to avoid it on the highway! Please have an awesome weekend!!!

Sincerely,
Sarah

Button...button...who's got the button?

Whirligig Buttons

Whew! What a busy weekend - it certainly left me feeling slightly frazzled! However, I have come to the conclusion that buttons are a very cute way to brighten up any card or scrapbook page. They are great for many reasons including the following:
1) COLOR
2) Texture
3) They can be used to replace objects (for example, red buttons on a tree could look like apples)
4) They can be used simply as buttons (say you are making a scrapbook page about how your child just learned how to button his shirt or you want to have a card that closes via button)
5) They can be used as polka dots
6) They can be used for flower centers
7) They can be used for borders
8) They can be used to secure ribbons, bows, and other objects discreetly
9) They can be used to fill in different shapes (maybe you feel like making a button cloud?)
I highly recommend the line of buttons by Autumn Leaves because they have button bags with SO MANY buttons! Even better, they come in all different sizes so that you have more options of what to do with them! The Whirligig Buttons above make me think of warm weather and fruit, but they really have so many more possibilities!

I am under the impression that the majority of the Autumn Leaves buttons are circular, however, Bo Bunny has a lot of button collections that include gems or buttons of different shapes if that's what you're lookin' for (see right). I really like that these button collections have the different shaped items because I think they enhance creativity. Just from looking at the Grease Monkey collection, I am thinking that the stars could be used for at least the following themes:
1) 4th of July
2) Christmas
3) Birthday
4) Military
Ah, buttons...we would be at such a loss without them : )
