Meet our DT Member, Jo!

We are so lucky to have Jo as part of our Simon Says Stamp family! Her mixture of ingenuity and love of crafting make her a cut above the 'average crafter' and she continues to inspire many on a weekly basis via our Challenge blog! Take a look at just a sampling of her amazing work that I've posted on this blog!

Jo resides in Wiltshire with her husband and 2 beautiful young daughters, Ski & Fizzy. In addition to being a wonderful crafter, she has a passion for her family and being a wonderful wife and Mum! She also enjoys camping and crocheting, and tuning into Kirstie's Homemade Home!

We are also very pleased and excited to announce that Jo's beautiful work will be published in an upcoming issue (#81) of a very renowned crafting magazine, Cardmaking & Papercraft. The current issue (#80) is shown in the photo below; look for issue #81 featuring Jo out soon!!

We are so pleased, happy, and honored to have Jo on our team, she is wonderful! We hope you take a moment to really peruse her blog HERE because there is just too much loveliness for me to fit on one blog! :) I will leave you with one more of my favorite recent cards from Jo. We love you Jo, thanks for all you do!!!!

Won't you share some love to Jo, too? :)

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!

Don't Delay for Dad's Day!

Haven't made a card for Father's Day yet and feeling somewhat stumped? Lisa Spangler's card (see left) is a great example of a classy, yet simple to make Father's Day card. I really like the various elements of the card - they work together without overcrowding. Specifically, I like the city background (made by a Hero Arts rubber stamp called Silly Scape); I also think the Heart Accent Pearls are cute! Lisa used the Ranger Diamond Stickles Glitter Glue to enhance them. The sentiment is from the Happy Dad's Day clear stamp set - one that I love because of all the options it offers. I like the grill and the tools, but the coffee cup reminds me of when I was little.

My elementary school had a gifts sale where we could shop for family members before different holidays. I remember each grade went at a different time of the day and that my sisters and I used to worry we had gotten our dad the same "#1 Dad" or "I love Dad" mug. I think he might still have a few of those $1 mugs around : ) There is a chance that if I make him a card for Father's Day, he might tear up or at least laugh about the mug fights.

Thanks Dad

It seems that we have gotten Dad the same types of gifts each year for Father's Day. I know that in addition to mugs, he has received many ties: one that my older sister decorated with neon puffy paint (it was SO awesome!), and lots of others with patterns we thought he would approve of. I like the Thanks Dad stamps from Stampendous because of that memory, but also because the words on the sheet aren't connected - it's up to the artist to make the combination of words for the sentiment. If I were decorating a card using this set, I'd probably color in the clear tie to look like the one my sister, Katie designed. I also like the Thanks Dad stamps because, as I've said before, people really do need to hear the words "thank you." I'm really thankful to both of my parents for how they've raised me and for all they have taught me.

Among the things my parents have taught me are the simple lessons Dad taught us. One is responsibility - each week we had to clean a bathroom in the house, put away our own laundry, and keep our rooms clean. I guess this also taught us discipline to a certain extent, too, because there were consequences for us if we didn't do those chores each week (hehe). We also learned how we should be treated by boys - Dad was always "a proper gentleman" when he took us out for father-daughter time. Some of these gentlemanly practices include opening doors for us, keeping us safe from harm, pulling out our chairs for us when we sat down, and really just making sure we were comfortable in general. The Proper Gentleman paper pack by Graphic 45 reminds me of my dad for these reasons (and also because some of the papers look like ties we've gotten him over the years). Aw, my dad is great!! :D

Hopefully many of you have some neat Daddy memories like I do and you'll get to remind your dad that you love him on Father's Day or at least remember good times! The weekend here in O-HI-O is supposed to be hot, but nice out - I'm thinking there will be grilling involved and if I'm lucky, I might even get some sun!

Jeniffer is amazing artist! I love her card so much! Her creation always inspiring! And those card absolutely will cheer up the recipient!
I would like to add phrase like "sending hugs to you" :)

These are adorable, love the use of the different colours. I think I would leave the message open with "Just a note to say" then you could add the actual message inside the card i.e. thank you, get well soon, etc.
Hugs

Gorgeous cards. Love the bright colours. You can never mave to many of them. A sentiment like "enjoy your day" or "just me saying hello" could be fine.
hugs Dorte

Blogger Jackie said...

I have always like the "Just wanted to say..." sentiment. That leaves it open for whatever you want to put inside. I love Jennifer's work and these cards are beautiful!

Blogger Marla said...

I love those cards...she is so talented! I think they would work with any sentiment at all...thanks for all the inspiration!

Blogger Eva said...

How simple, yet so different. The various colours make the cards look so different from each other eventhough it's the same stamp used on each and every one!
I would use a phrase like "Just for You" You could then really use the card for a lot of occassions: birthday, thank you, saying hello, etc.

Heart Warming Story - Tim Holtz' Newest Fan

Who is that cutie pie?

Her name is Tori and if you have a sec, I'd like to share a sweet story with you.

Tori's mom is Tiffany. Tiffany is our customer service Director at Simon Says Stamp. We love Tiff, and Tiff shares in our passions for all things paper art. In fact, at home Thursday night, Tiff was watching some of the Tim Holtz' "how to" demo videos with little Tori. ( The vids are really awesome - Tim is charismatic, easy to follow and has really fun and cool techniques.) Inspiring! So inspiring that Tori fell in love and NEEDED to do these things too! The videos made things come to life for little Tori and she is HOOKED! Tiffany came into work Friday and told me Tori totally wants to do some Tim Holtz projects at her 9th birthday party coming up. AWESOME! I was so excited to hear another artist coming out of her shell! She wanted to start with the alcohol ink /splatter spray can technique from the demo below.

We loaded Tiff up with supplies for Tori JUST YESTERDAY.

Tiffany texted me this morning to see if she could stop by the office. I was on my way... perfect. She had Tori with her and Tori wanted to show what she made with the Tim Holtz goodies from JUST YESTERDAY! The whole family (even in-laws) were at Tori's house last night practicing and perfecting the Splatter technique. Tiffany said it was a blast. I could tell by the look on shy little Tori's face and her excited little voice that she was bursting with excitement.

Above is a picture of Tori just outside our Simon office showing the beautiful piece of art she made and gave to me. My heart is warmed.

This is what it is all about folks! Not just making art, but sharing and creating. It's food for the soul and what a beautiful thing that Tim Holtz is inspiring our children to make art with us! Thank you Tori! Thank you Tiff! Thank you Tim!

Have a delightful weekend,
Luv,
Heidi

Do You Like Coffee?

Java Jumpers
The other day while picking products for orders, Reba stopped me and said that she thought of something cool for me to blog about: COFFEE! It's really perfect because I'm a complete coffee addict. I love everything about it - the smell, the look, the taste, the caffeine!! Me - really coffee obsessed. I personally do not care for sodas or energy drinks, but I'm hardly seen without a cup of coffee in my hand (unless it's late at night and I need to get to bed!). I think it's an awesome excuse to get together with a friend, too. Can't seem to find time to see that old friend who you used to be really close with? Only have a 45 minute window in between appointments? Want to meet with someone, but already ate lunch? Go for coffee! House Mouse has this stamp called Java Jumpers that is not only cute, but also pretty hilarious. Sometimes I feel like those mice after too many cups (like now...hehe).

The truth is, I have not always been crazy about coffee. I have always liked the smell, but when I was younger I thought the taste was revolting. The tables have turned, though! I like pretty much all kinds of coffee that I've tried, and I'm a fan of the Coffee and Tea clear stamps by Crafty Secrets. Aren't they cute? I like that the sentiments are humorous and true. For example, there is a chance that I fit into the category of "coffee-zilla." I think it'd be really fun to have a little coffee get together with friends. With "the way things are" these days, it's hard to throw an entire brunch get together for friends - coffee and tea could be a neat way to bring people together without going into the deep end, so to speak. I also believe that coffee is a better way to get to know someone than going to lunch - there's no chewing involved so you can learn more about the other person!

Coffee Cup
Eyelet Outlet has some really cute Coffee Cup brads that would be a nice addition to any coffee brunch invitation or anything else coffee-, tea-, or hot chocolate-themed! I really like the blue ones especially : )

It is already Friday and coffee has gotten me through another exciting week! This is going to sound corny and cliche - something I hate to do - but it's true: time really does fly when you're having fun. Well, my hazelnut-flavored coffee is brewed and cooling off in my coffee cup (I have issues with trying to drink it before it's cooled down - Ouch!), and I have some projects to work on, so I am going to sign off for the day.

Have a terrific weekend - try something new!!
Sincerely,
Your Coffee-loving Friend, Sarah

Tim Holtz Paint Dabber Resist Technique!

Hello Everybody! Are you ready to get inky again? I wanted to share another Tim Holtz Technique Video again today. This one is an "oldie but a goodie", it's Paint Dabber Resist - my absolute favorite technique! I just love the results and it is soooo easy - right up my alley!

This video is courtesy of Tim Holtz's Blog. Please pay his blog a visit HERE for an endless amount of inspiration!

This video features the Adirondack Paint Dabbers made by Ranger. They are perfect for so many projects and work on any surface (paper, metal, fabric - they are washable!, grungeboard, grungepaper, and chipboard). They come in convenient one ounce dabber bottles so you can use direct to surface, or open the top to paint with a brush. I mentioned that this was my favorite Tim Holtz technique, so I also have a "go to" color that I use - the PEARL! The results are just stunning - trust me!

Here is a list of other supplies you might need when using this fabulously addicting technique!
- Ranger Inkssentials Craft Sheet
- Ranger Craft Scraper (for cleaning your Craft Sheet when you are done)
- #8 Manila Tags
- Acrylic Blocks
- Ranger Mini Mister
- Tim Holtz Distress Ink
- Ranger Inkssentials Ink Blending Tool and Replacement Foam
- Tim Holtz Psychedelic Grunge Cling Set
- Tim Holtz Bird Branch Wood Mounted Stamp
- Ranger Archival Ink Jet Black
- Paint Dabber Replacement Tops
- Ranger Adirodack Paint Dabber Travel Case

The video is below for you viewing enjoyment. Sit back, grab a beverage of your choice, and prepare to be inspired!

Sooooooooo.......I have a fabulous prize today, are you interested? ***BLOG CANDY ALERT*** Please leave a comment on this blog about what your favorite Tim Holtz technique is, or your own personal technique you have created using Tim's products! I will choose a random winner on Sunday at noon. The winner will receive a Paint Dabber Travel Pack with a Pearl Adirondack Paint Dabber, a Craft Scraper, and a Mini Mister included! I can't wait to hear what your favorites are! I hope this "made" you day!
