Greetings my inky friends! It's May Flaum here, back with some fresh inspiration for you featuring two of the new Crafter's Workshop stencils just released! Check out some of the new designs now in the shop!
Before I share my project today, I want to share with you my favorite trick that I've just recently begun using when I want to stencil just a small part of a design. I have found that scotch tape is perfect for preventing blunders!
I adhere a piece (or as many needed) of tape to the edge of the stencil if I am worried about going over the edge but don't have enough space between the edge and the design to comfortably rely on using a piece of scrap paper as a barrier. I also use it at times to make sure I only get one part of a design. This works fantastic - just make sure that when you do this the sticky side is facing UP and not down onto your project. Your foam blending tool (if applying ink) will not stick to it - it just glides right over the tacky tape! If you're using a mist that still works - it will not absorb.
Also, as long as you remove the tape when you're done, there should be no sticky residue or harm to your stencil. I do love a good trick to get more from my stencils.
Speaking of stencil love, that new mosaic leaf (shown above) is a favorite, and another absolutely "what did I ever do without this" stencil for me is definitely the mini confetti stencil.
This one is cool as-is, but where it truly rocks is used in small bits and pieces to accent a project. It can look so soft, so random, even I sometimes wonder how I got certain splatters of color and then I remember - it is my magic new stencil! Here you can see my finished scrapbook layout:
Supplies Used:
Using the foam blending tool with ink (most any should work!) is my favorite way to get good color coverage and I love all it adds to my page. These ideas aren't just for scrapbooking pages either! Cards, mixed media pieces, altered arts, tags, and all other kinds of craft projects can benefit from some of these fabulous stencils.
I hope you've enjoyed this look at some of my favorite new Crafter's Workshop stencils. You can find them now in the Simon Says Stamp shop, and if you're looking for more crafty fun and ideas with these stencils and more be sure to visit me on my blog where I'm often found getting my hands inky and using my stencils often.

Cool page layout and lovely color palette. I edge my stencils on all sides with duct tape on front and back for a 3" border--saves scrap paper. Scotch makes a low tack artist's tape (in a dispenser like regular tape) that works on stencils. Handy if you find peeling up tape difficult.

ReplyDeleteFor some reason the tip about the tape is eluding me! I can not see in my mind what you mean. If the tape is sticky side up - how does it stay in place? Beautiful project by the way!!!

ReplyDeleteA lot of times it's very difficult to get that "perfect balance" between usability and visual appearance. I must

OOPS, my comment disappeared! Didn't realize there were these templates and love the idea and various designs of them (went to SSS store and checked...LOL!) Thanks for the tips and ideas. Especially like the scotch tape tip. Sticky side UP? eh? I WAS using Painter's Tape, but it would sometimes pull off some cardstock, regardless of repeatedly sticking to clothing beforehand...grrr. frustrating. Also, Scotch tape comes in varied widths, so that helps. Love your layout. TFS~
ReplyDeleteLove what you did with the mosaic stencils! Love the colors and how the stenciling frames your photos! Thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love these stencils! xx
